Hi Tony, is it possible to transfer a BS5 PC game save to the android version? Thanks, James
Yup - the saves are compatible across any platform
On the GBA agenda - didn't SOTT have an exclusive scene that acted as a predecessor to BS3? Something in the Paris sewer? It's also a long time ago - share if you can remember anything about it :)
yeah, something in the sewers where you break the door down with the boat hook. Go round the corner…
Hi tony, any more video logs on your sandbox game, been a while now ;)
Well, the vids I did were for a quick puzzle game I’m doing. But I’ve been pulled back from that to do alternations on another game, Sticky Blocks, which are nearly done now. Then I’ll go back to the puzzler, and then after that I hope to get back to the actual sandbox game - it’s called MashBots, btw. I’ll try and do a vid of some description this week, though :) Thanks for asking…
Now that you mention it, did you use any third-party stuff during development besides SDL? We use ICU for Unicode in conjunction with BMFont to make Font handling more bearable (because these really ARE the worst parts; second that!). If you did this stuff all on your own then.... damn, you sir, would be a machine! Come to think of it, what is your most FUN part to write in a game? :)
Note my font hell is for my own stuff, not Rev. Virtual Theatre engine obviously handles unicode properly. BMFont looks good - curiously I find I already had it bookmarked. I’ve been using GlyphDesigner, which I like, but I’m sure sure if it even outputs unicode fonts. But it’s more the utf8 handling that I’m not familiar with. I shall look at ICU, thanks for the tip.
Most of it is fun! I just like creating something from nothing. When you finish work for the day, and you have something working on screen that wasn’t there in the morning. I love that. It’s why coding is so cool.
Fonts, Unicode, iOS provisioning
That’s three. I’ve had to deal with all of them today - and not always in a nice way…
This was probably all asked a long time ago, but that unreleased version of Broken Sword 2 for the GBA (which you feature in your blog some time ago), how far into development did it get? I saw the flower seller at the square so it obviously had some changes made to it too! Would you ever consider finishing it, or at the least releasing a ROM of it? Obviously with whatever permission you would need. One last question, what cart is it on? It sticks out the bottom of the GBA like a Gameboy cart.
It was alpha, iirc. So it probably played right through, but was buggy. I’d consider finishing it if someone could grant me infinite life span ;) Not sure about releasing it as is - might just make us look bad. Cart was probably some dev thing, or a 3rd party cart of some sort. It was 10 years ago I suppose - I remember very little :)
A great shame it never came out, given it was nearly done. But the publisher went Bam!
I have that GBA version of Broken Sword boxed with the instructions and stuff, is it rare then or is that copy just rare because it is sealed and in that condition? Also, are there any versions of the Broken Sword games that you have never seen Tony? I have a JPN PS2 version of Broken Sword 3 for example (the box for that is my fave one of the lot I think).
gba sword isn’t all that rare - they made 100k or so, I think. My copy is a right mess, so I need to by a better one.
I would think there are various foreign language versions of BS’s that I don’t have. I’ll post some rarer ones I do have though…
